3D Printing in the Secondary Curriculum CPD

This course, is available with full and half day options and is tailored to your hardware. It covers best practice and provides everything you need to get up and running with 3D printing across the secondary curriculum.

The course can be delivered for up to 10 attendees on site, at our HQ in Chorley, Lancashire or remotely via Zoom. Remote half day training is delivered over 2 x 1.5hr sessions, remote full day training is delivered over 3 x 2hr sessions.

The course forms part of our Certified 3D Educator Program and upon completion of the course and submitting a final task all participants will receive our “Bronze 3D Educator Certification”

All of our curriculum courses include:

  • Practical activities to experience design, slicing and 3D printing models
  • 3D design tools, techniques and selecting appropriate 3D modelling software
  • How to utilise and embed 3D printing within your subject area(s)
  • How to develop and progress pupils’ skills in 3D design and printing
  • Age/stage specific 3D printing skills and projects
  • How to manage the 3D printing workflow in an educational environment
  • Health & Safety, basic technical skills, troubleshooting and accessing support
  • Budgeting for and managing ongoing running costs
  • Where to access classroom resources and 3D files
  • A USB Drive containing course presentation and resources.

Half Day Course Contents

  • 3D Printer Setup (where applicable)
  • Introduction to 3D printing (how it works)
  • The 3D printing process (design-slice-3D print)
  • Software Overview
  • CAD Practical activity (2D to 3D)
  • Introduction to slicing (slicing a model in Cura using recommended settings)
  • 3D printing (print models)
  • Health & Safety
  • Basic troubleshooting
  • Skills progression and example projects
  • Embedding 3D printing across the curriculum

Full Day Course Contents

The full day course provides more hand on practice and covers 3D printing in greater depth including:

  • CAD – Tinkercad introduction and design task, other software options
  • Designing for 3D printing
  • Cura – manipulating models and Cura slicing settings
  • 3D printing tips and tricks
  • Maintenance, common print problems and troubleshooting
